About this site
Elevation 4300 feet. In 1901, Edwin T. Wolverton came to this area in search of a fabled Spanish gold mine.
By 1921, he had constructed this mill in hopes of the great riches he would soon realize. The gold proved elusive, and long after Wolverton had given up hope of the lush life, the BLM reclaimed the mill. The restored gold mill is on display at the office in Hanksville: a testimony to the dreams that lured so many to such a desolate country.
