About this site
The OHEKA CASTLE, built in 1919 and a member of Historic Hotels of America® since 2004 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation® for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America. OHEKA CASTLE regally stands on a manicured estate in the heart of Long Island. Built by financier and philanthropist
Otto Hermann Kahn in 1919, The New York Times declared it "the finest country estate in America," and the chateau remains
the second-largest private residence ever built in America. In the Gilded Age of the 1920s, the estate entertained Hollywood
illuminaries, esteemed heads-of-state, and distinguished royalty. Eventually repurposed and abandoned, it was developer Gary
Melius who began a careful and painstaking restoration of the castle in 1984, bringing OHEKA CASTLE back to its original
grandeur. A royal experience, guests are welcomed to this premier historic hotel with charming European luxury and hospitality. For Price Match Guarantee and Special Offers please visit, please visit HistoricHotels.org .
