About this site
Overview The historic Hinsdale Garden is home to more than 300 species of rhododendrons, azaleas, and camellias. Located east of Reedsport along the Umpqua River, the garden features a network of trails and a footbridge that connects both sides of the property, allowing visitors to view nearly all of the plantings. Public access to the garden is limited.
The best time to visit is during hosted open garden days, which are typically held each spring during peak bloom season in partnership with the Friends of Hinsdale Garden . Know Before You Go Vehicle access is restricted; a gate blocks entry to the garden. Dates and times for hosted public open garden days are posted each spring on this page and on the Friends of Hinsdale Garden website.
No running water is available. Day-use only. Point of Interest Several plants in the Hinsdale Garden are more than 100 years old and are among the oldest known rhododendrons in Oregon.
The garden was established in the 1940s by Howard Hinsdale when the property served as his personal residence. Howard Hinsdale was a successful Oregon businessman who resided on the property until the 1970s.
