About this site
Though popular and well-travelled, these canyons present an outstanding opportunity for
individual exploration and discovery. They represent the Grand Staircase-Escalante National
Monument as it was intended to be experienced. It was established with a special mission to
preserve its frontier character and thereby the potential for personal discovery. So exercise your
unconstrained spirit, climb obstacles, wade through water and sticky mud, be adventureous but
also be prepared to turn around if the conditions or obstacles are beyond your ability. The Dry Fork Narrows is an easy and wonderful section of narrows to explore. It is to your
left when you first reach the Dry Fork drainage. Peek-A-Boo Gulch presents a fun though
challenging slot requiring a 12 foot climb to gain entry. It is 100 yards downstream of the
Dry Fork narrows. If you decide your group does not have the agility to explore this canyon
head downstream one half mile to the mouth of Spooky Gulch. Only 10 inches wide at some
points, Spooky is appropriately named. It is possible to travel almost halfway through before
the first of two climbs, so go ahead and squeeze through as far as you dare.
