Welcome to All About The Woods — the platform built for people who love the outdoors and want a better way to plan trips, discover campsites, and coordinate with their crew. Whether you're a solo backpacker or planning a group camping weekend, this guide will walk you through everything AATW has to offer.
1. Create Your Account
Signing up takes about 30 seconds. Head to the Sign Up page and enter your email — we'll send you a magic link (no passwords to remember). Once you click the link in your inbox, you'll land on the onboarding screen where you can:
- Set your display name and username
- Upload a profile photo
- Choose your outdoor interests (hiking, camping, fishing, etc.)
Your profile is your basecamp on AATW. Other members can find you at /u/your-username.
2. Explore Campsites & Locations
The Explore Map is your gateway to discovering campgrounds, trailheads, and outdoor spots. Here's what you can do:
- Browse the Map — Pan, zoom, and click markers to see campsite details, amenities, and photos
- Search by Name — Use the search bar to find specific locations
- "Near Me" — Tap the GPS icon to discover spots near your current location
- Read Reviews — See what other campers think before you commit
- Add Your Own Locations — Found a hidden gem? Add it to the platform for the community
Each campsite page shows key details like amenities (fire pits, restrooms, water access), facility type, managing agency, and a direct link to make reservations.
3. Plan Your First Trip
This is where AATW really shines. Head to Create Trip and you'll be guided through a simple wizard:
- Name your trip — Give it a title (e.g., "July 4th Lake Camping")
- Pick your dates — Set start and end dates
- Choose a location — Search our database or add a new spot
- Invite your crew — Send invite links to friends via email or shareable link
Trip Lifecycle
Every trip goes through clear stages:
- Proposed — You've created it, but dates/details may still be flexible
- Planning — The crew is confirmed, now coordinate gear, food, and rides
- Confirmed — Everything's locked in — you're going!
- Completed — Back home with memories (and photos to upload)
4. Coordinate with Your Crew
Once a trip is created, you and your crew get access to the Trip Command Center — a shared dashboard with everything you need:
🎒 Gear Lane
Manage who's bringing what. No more showing up with three camp stoves and zero lanterns.
- Add gear items from your Gear Library (a personal inventory you build over time)
- See what the group still needs
- Check items off as they're packed
🍔 Food & Meals
Plan meals for the whole trip. Assign who's cooking, list ingredients, and make sure nobody goes hungry.
🚗 Rides & Carpooling
Coordinate transportation so everyone gets to the trailhead. See who's driving, how many seats are open, and request a ride.
📸 Trip Moments
Upload photos and media from the trip. Your crew can all contribute, building a shared album of the adventure.
📅 Date Voting
Can't agree on when to go? Create a date poll and let the group vote on the best weekend.
5. Build Your Gear Library
Your Gear Library is a personal inventory of all your outdoor equipment. Add items once, and reuse them across any trip:
- Categorize gear (shelter, cooking, clothing, safety, etc.)
- Mark items as "Always Bring" so they auto-populate on new trips
- Track weight for backpacking trips
- Share your loadout with the group
6. Join the Community
AATW isn't just a planning tool — it's a community. Here's how to connect:
- Groups — Join or create groups around shared interests (local hiking clubs, family camping crews, etc.)
